Friday with Heidi: Friends, fitness and farewell…
This week saw the end of a long and successful union between me and Karen Burles.
Some 10 years after joining the FastTrack Fit Camp team she’s moved on to focus on her own athletic training, online business and being with her family.
Karen and I go back longer than that and we’ve been knocking around the fitness circuit in Wokingham for about the last 18 years or so.
Our paths would cross when we both taught Les Mills classes at local leisure centres but it was shortly after Vida and I established FastTrack Fit Camp that she started to share what we were doing in her classes. We started to see a steady stream of Karen-referred clients and it seemed obvious to us both that we’d be best to get her to train these people who knew her already.
She’s our full energy, bonkers-mad, multiple layers wearing instructor that comes in like a pulse of energy before leaving you wondering what you just witnessed!
From endurance runs, obstacle events, marathons, mountain runs, boxing challenges, auditioning for Ninja Warriors (twice) and qualifying for TeamGB she’s an inspiration beyond anything most of us could even imagine.
Over the last 10 years she and I have created and delivered five fantastically different Weekender events, we’ve hosted and organised Christmas parties and Summer Oscar themed balls, spent time deliberating on joint running/Fit Camp events and drunk more than our fair share of coffee and hot chocolates.
She’s award winning, European medal holding, business owning and single mumming.
I’ll miss her at Fit Camp, but the world is changing. Covid-19 has seen to that and so we’re all looking at new versions of what we think our future looks like.
I know that we’re not done and that we’ll stay in touch, but for now I want to wish her the very best of luck with all that her new future holds.
Thank you Karen. At least I won’t have to try and look like you in a Santa suit anymore 🙂
