Friday with Heidi: Out, out!!
And we’re back!
Back to the outside.
Back to the chatty, joking and bantering style of a Fit Camp session.
Back to the grunts, groans and secret looks between campers for mutual dislike for an exercise.
It’s like we’ve never been away. And yet it’s been 20 weeks and feels like a lifetime.
Yes, I am late this week. Apologies, sometimes life gets in the way of grand plans and this week has been no exception.
On Wednesday the Swallowfield crew were the first back to the fold and enjoyed amongst other things:
- the feeling of hearing other peoples voices as they worked out.
- the familiar underfoot surface of the playground.
- the camaraderie and collective feeling for burpees.
And this this morning I’ve run a 06.30 session at Bearwood Recreation Ground in Winnersh, Wokingham and had a bunch of campers all desperate to meet each other again and work out socially distanced but together. I heard from them that
- the time went more quickly in the sets and the session as a whole.
- they loved to chat and distract themselves from the effort (we may need to have a word about that one!)
- they were delighted to have more space to do their workout in.
As we move through this month I’ll be making small steps to get back outside each week whilst keeping an online presence too.
It’s been a long stretch of lockdown and the mood had been to get back out. Now that we’re able to move more freely any new habits which have been developed influence new routines and it may be that getting out isn’t what people are desperate for afterall.
So for now I’ll see where August takes us before making any long term decisions. From September, when there’s more of a sense of normality, I’ll consider what a new timetable will include for Fit Camp as we head into the autumn.
What new habits have you developed in lockdown that are now influencing how you want to work, socialise and learn?
I find it fascinating how adaptable we’ve all been in this moment in history.
Have a great week! See you online or outside soon.
