Friday with Heidi: Who’s kidding who?
What a fabulous week we’ve had here at FastTrack Fit Camp!
On the back of a truly lovely 10th birthday month I am feeling very happy, grounded and ready for what 2020 and the next 10 years is going to bring.
However, I also know that I can kid myself into believing my own story too.
I will think that I am taking enough time off – then wonder why I get overwhelmed or resentful.
I think I can manage on my ongoing broken sleep – then get caught out by falling asleep early evening only to nearly miss a camp! (happened this week!)
Think I have my own water intake sorted only to realise I am well down despite making it a priority for all clients.
Given that I have a pretty good idea about this stuff it’s not at all surprising to me to see this in my clients, who don’t have a quite the same awareness about themselves, and their habits.
This week I was chatting with a colleague about diet and lifestyle and what could be attributing to the problems he’d referred to.
One of the very first things that was mentioned was how he didn’t eat much bread and tended to avoid it. After a while I asked what a normal day looked like food wise.
…Toast, biscuit, something on toast or sandwich for lunch, pasta for dinner…
I challenged the ‘I don’t each much bread‘ statement. And got an admission of ‘yep, I’ve been sussed‘.
Two things here.
- I am not anti-wheat per se. Some people can eat it with no apparent problem (there’s more to this but I won’t go into it here) and if you can I am chuffed for you, life is easier for sure. However, having wheat as part of every meal and snack isn’t so great. We need variety, the body will become more sensitive to it if you have it all the time. So I am not alienating wheat, but I do encourage you to think about all foods groups and see how much they feature in your meals. The ones that tend to feature a lot are wheat, dairy and sugar.
- We are great at believing our own stories. And believing our own BS is a sure fire way to keep ourselves in a situation that we’re not happy with.
If you think you need to lose weight but are stuffing a biscuit every time you pass the kitchen at work, that’s going to add up.
If you think you’re giving it your all in your workouts and can still chat through it, let me be the one to tell you that you’re not.
And if you think that you’re eating healthily but there’s nothing of any colour in your meals. No green, orange, yellow, reds or blue/purple you are missing out on a vast array of nutrition, roughage and low calorie, nutrient dense food stuffs which, when eaten regularly, will only make you feel better.
So my message this week is to stop kidding yourself.
If there’s a sticky area in your life that isn’t where you’d like it to be, be honest with yourself. Stop kidding a kidder and make a change. It doesn’t have to be a big change, but do make a change.
And yes, you can start now, before Christmas. That’s another statement to kid you into delaying a change. Start now, do the work, feel the benefit, enjoy Christmas and then carry straight on.
I believe in you. You can do that.
What’s coming up?
