Friday with Heidi: A 10 year warm up…
On Monday 16 November 2009 Vida (my then business partner) and I officially opened the doors to FastTrack Fit Camp.
It wasn’t a long time in the planning.
- It was a chat about a workshop on running outdoor classes.
- It was finally attending said workshop on outdoor classes (other commitments delayed us to attend earlier).
- It was planning how to run it, who to ask to join us and where to host it.
- It was cajoling my husband to create a logo and a website that we could take payment through.
- It was setting the date and going for it.
The whole thing took 3 weeks.
With hindsight would I do it that way again?
No.
But I also recognise that I probably wouldn’t have started at all if we’d not done it this way.
No plan, no long term strategy, no marketing savvy. Just two fitness instructors with a desire to stop grape-vining for a living but recognising that we were unemployable if we stayed teaching fitness for much longer.
Would I have started an outdoor bootcamp in November? No.
Would I have thought that taking it indoors in a riding school was a good idea (where it was oh so stinky and sandy)? No.
Would I have wanted our clients to be escorted in by tractor because we had so much rain that the farm flooded? Definitely no!
But every little problem made us think how to change it, how to make it more viable.
And so, 10 years on, in what seems like the longest warm up ever, I feel like it’s time to make changes again.
I don’t know what it looks like yet.
I don’t even know when it’s going to start.
But I can feel an excitement in my bones for changes ahead and, given my 10 years experience in keeping things going through the highs and lows of running a business, I am ready for whatever that looks like and whenever it comes.
So if you’re mooning about things in your life not changing. If you feel like you’ve not made the progress you’d hoped, fear not. Things will come to you when you’re ready to act on them.
So on that note I am going to keep the excitement alive with some New Year events to plan and share with you, but also know that when the opportunities arise I’ll see them, grab them and see where I land.
Have a great week!

Sunrise time!
Not a lot of sunrise action this week, but I did manage to capture this on one of my walks. A beautifully calm morning it was too.
Have a great week.
