Friday with Heidi: It’s the little things…

It’s the little things that really make the difference.
I’ve had a few of those this week and following a comment on the FastTrack Fit Camp Facebook page about one of them I feel inspired to talk about it this week. So thank you Sam for your comment!
The power of an unsolicited compliment is vastly underrated.
I was at Coppa Club in Sonning on Thursday for a meeting (my first time, it was lovely if you’ve not been) and I nipped to the loo. As I went in a lady was stood at the sinks. When I came out she was still there and stopped me. She said “I just have to say what a fabulous hair cut you’ve got. I never normally would talk to someone in a loo, but I just had to tell you“.
Now to be fair, I can’t take much credit for that. But I do feel that I can take credit for keeping it like my hairdresser cuts it for me! Anyway, I was chuffed to bits with it! It made my morning and I bounced back to my meeting feeling quite happy with myself.
A small comment, with a big impact.
Today whilst at another meeting (I left corporate to avoid meetings, I seem to have a lot more these days) at the Holiday Inn in Reading we ordered coffee. When the waitress came with our mugs, she’d written individual note on our napkins.
I posted a photo on Facebook, mentioned her name and tagged the hotel. I hope she gets some recognition for her efforts.
It was such a lovely touch, we all commented on it.
A small touch that had a big impact.
This week I have managed to fill another four bags of trainers and shoes for our recycling programme as part of the Social Enterprise efforts that FastTrack Fit Camp are making.
I can’t tell you how happy seeing these four bags on my step makes me! Knowing that they won’t got to landfill, that they’ll be used or recycled is such a bloody joy – I love it!
A small collective effort, with a big impact.
When you look back over this week where have you experienced something small like this that’s made a big difference to your day?
Where have you made a difference to someone else’s week?
There’s still time today to say something nice or do something helpful for someone. You have no idea what that might do for them.
And, if you experience something lovely like Ruth at the Holiday Inn or a compliment about something you don’t control, like my haircut, pass it on. Post on social media to thank them or email them to let them know that someone recognised their work. It’s priceless.
We all need a boost every now and then and the more you give the more you’ll get.
This week I have two things to share.
- On Bank Holiday Monday we offer a pay-as-you-go option to our 09.30 Fit Camp session at Winnersh. If you fancy seeing what we do, please come along and say ‘hi’ and I’ll ensure you get a great workout to leave you buzzing not snoring for the rest of the day!
- On 9 September Karen and I are launching our 10@10 Birthday Run Programme. We have 14 places available for you to join us on our 1km for each year FastTrack has traded programme. Fit Camp and running sessions, 2 of each per week with both of us doing the sessions, entering the event and helping you literally every step of the way. Spaces are filling up and we’re looking forward to meeting our new recruits! Full details are here:
That’s it!
Go and do something little for someone else this weekend – you have no idea how you may impact their day.
Have a fabulous Bank Holiday Weekend.
