Over in our Twyford Fit Camp we have Paul who has been a camper as a full time worker and now, as a man very much enjoying his early retirement (we must say ‘early’, it’s most important!). He’s 61 and working out four times a week with us.
How long have you been coming to Fit Camp?
About 4-5 years.
Why did you start coming to Fit Camp?
I was very sporty after school and up to the age of 40. I then tried various gyms and running in the evenings but I never really enjoyed either.
Without regular exercising my weight increased gradually, but not too drastically fortunately. With added work pressures I was finding it very difficult to find a class that would challenge me again and, at a time that benefited me. Fit Camp did that. I also found that Fit Camp relieved my work stresses.
Have you got that from your visits?
Certainly, Fit Camp continues in all weathers and being in the open air is both refreshing and stimulating. After taking early retirement last year, I now have the advantage of attending Fit Camp classes four times a week. I also get regular physical activity improving my long term fitness and my muscle toning.
What has attending Fit Camp given you that you weren’t expecting?
Many of the exercises are similar to my football training earlier in my career so after a little research found that these similarities are common throughout the sporting spectrum in most cases.
One of the best attributes of attending Fit Camp is the people, there is a great camaraderie within the group and everyone is welcoming when you join and I was extremely grateful to everyone for that when I first attended.
We must not forget that we are all there together, trying to achieve the same thing. We have support around us and sharing those aching limbs encourages us all to keep going!
What’s your favourite exercise at Fit Camp?
Vicki would know this one. It is “Step and Shoot”
