Friday with Heidi: I’m just popping out…
Thank you!
Thank you so much for the lovely feedback following last week’s announcement.
The general opinion has been one of great positivity, so I thank you for that.
If you missed it, you can see it here.
There will be a new format to Friday with Heidi from now on. Each week I’ll share with you what we’ve been up to so that you can see that I am good to my word and that we’re committed to this. If you know someone who’d be interested in what we do, please forward this to them and they can register to receive it too.
This weekend though it’s all about the Jurassic Challenge.
The Jurassic Challenge is an endurance event along the coastal paths, starting in Poole.
You can choose a variety of distances to walk or run and there is a group of Fit Campers doing just that.
- We have 5 intrepid walkers doing the 34km route, starting at 10am tomorrow.
- There are 2 hardy walkers doing the 57km route, starting at 7am tomorrow.
- And, there are 5 of us (yes, that’s me too) walking the 100km route starting at 7am tomorrow too.
It may sound slightly bonkers but I am really looking forward to it.
The thought of being outside, walking along the coast with our younger daughter to listen to (she has a list of topics to discuss!) fills me with an excitable glee.
I am anticipating big sky moments, grunty hill climbs, breezy hill top memories and, fingers crossed, sunset and sunrises to die for.
It’s not a race and as long as you are done within 36 hours you’re a finisher. Ideally I’d quite like to be at the finish line early on Sunday morning, this would mean a 24 hour walk, through the night to get it done. Even that sounds exciting!
Why am I telling you this?
Because each of us on this challenge is doing it for a different reason and getting different accomplishments out of it.
Some for the thrills, some for the group experience, some for charity and, we still have some who are a little in denial!
And that’s life in a nutshell.
Some people work to live, others live to work.
Some see rain, others see a watered garden.
Others a cacophony of noise, others a musical masterpiece.
Whatever your preference this weekend I encourage you to embrace it fully, to enjoy it wholly and suck it all up. You’ll be a happier person come Monday if you do that compared to if you’d only given it half your energy because you didn’t want to show up differently to others around you.
So, we’re just popping out for a walk…see you on our return.
Love Life Outside
What’s new from the Social Enterprise side of the business at FastTrack Fit Camp week ending Thursday 6 June?
Trainer recycling
We have requests for a recycling bin placement out for discussion with three of our Wokingham based bootcamp venues. We await their responses.
In the meantime I am collecting trainers (children and adults) so that we can either pass them onto charity or get them recycled. If you have old trainers, sports shoes or sneakers please don’t send them to landfill. We can take them.
Litter Picking
We are waiting to receive our litter picker sticks and hi-vis jackets from Wokingham Council so we can start our post-workout litter picks. I anticipate our first litter pick to be within the fortnight. Here’s a short blog on how to keep litter picking safe if you are thinking of going it alone.
Plastic Reduction
Following the news item this week that Waitrose are trialling a serve yourself section within one of their stores I have written to my local Sainsbury’s to ask them to introduce the same.
How to buy wild flower seeds / BeeBombs safely
Even buying seeds isn’t an easy job! One of our readers works for immigration and asked me to warn you all of buying cheaper, non-native seeds when considering your own rewilding projects at home. Here’s the short blog post I wrote to follow that up.
FastTrack Fit Camp is an outdoor fitness business with the focus on improving people on the inside so they feel good on the outside. In 2019 FastTrack Fit Camp became a Social Enterprise and committed to distribute a minimum of 50% of profits back to community environmental projects each year with the goal of helping our local citizens feel good whilst being outside too.
