Happy Friday to you!
I hope the short week has served you well? As you read this I’ll be in my final throes of prepping and loading my car for our first FastTrack Fit Camp Weekender of the year.
Today I am off to Combe Martin in North Devon for a second year running. Debbie, my walking colleague, and I are hosting a group of ladies for a fabulous weekend of coastal pathways, big skies and sunsets. I am very much looking forward to it.
Our Weekender events are all unique. Each trip brings together a new set of people, a new bunch of personalities and new opportunities for them to challenge, inspire and learn from each other.
We stay in an old Ashram in Combe Martin. It’s perfect for what we need and is clean and offers basic facilities. And it got me thinking about how oftentimes we over complicate things when all we need to do is strip them back to basics.
This week I met up with a couple who had asked me to support them with some nutrition and diet advice for weight loss. At our first meeting it became quickly clear that their social life was a key part of their lifestyle and would leave them feeling deprived if they changed that part of their schedule too much. So we looked at where we could tweak what they currently do so as to give them some wiggle room for their friends.
I discussed some basic changes with them.
- Having three meals a day.
- Adding more protein to each meal.
- Increasing water intake.
- Suggesting a reduction in week night drinking.
- Being active each day with daily activity.
When I met with them this week they were both pleased to see that they’d lost weight without really feeling that their lives had been dictated by it.
Get the basics right and you get some great changes.
Yesterday I had the privilege to talk at one of my networking groups on the importance of looking after yourself when you run your own business. If the buck stops with you, you want to make sure that you are maximising your health.
I liken it to investing in a pension. You need to be in it for the long haul.
You’ll never know what would have happened if you hadn’t done it, but you need to start early to reap the benefits.
If you’re not happy with where things are for you. Start with the basics. Choose from…
- Doing something healthy each day.
- Getting enough sleep.
- Drinking enough water.
- Moving a bit.
- Exercising if you can.
- Eating a freshly cooked meal.
- Taking time out for you.
- Getting outside.
- Having protein with each meal.
- Doing something for someone else without expectation of reward.
- Eating some veggies or salad.
You know the drill…
Keep it simple, stick to the basics and get those results before trying to over complicate it.
Have a great week and I’ll report back in next week with how our intrepid walkers fared 🙂
I’ll leave you with a picture or two from last year’s trip when we had wall to wall sun and blue sky. And all we needed was nature to provide the show.
