What Lisa did…Week 3
Session 6: “Food – fuel or friend?”
Hello everyone!
When I signed up to attend these boot camps, I didn’t quite realise what I had got myself in for. I tell you why.
For every other boot camp, I have attended in the past, you turn up at the session, you work out, sweat, high-five the instructor and then head home.
FastTrack Fit Camp is so much more then that.
From Day 1 with FastTrack Fit Camp, I get an email most days with advice and guidance.
To start with, I thought, “cor blimey, this Heidi has a lot to say“. And then I found myself reading them every time it popped into my inbox. Each email kept my attention on the goal of “feeling better” and monitoring my happiness, not the weighing scales.
This brings me nicely onto the opening question of this blog – “Food – fuel or friend?”.
I don’t know about you, but my relationship with food has been a turbulent one. I should probably take it on the Jeremy Kyle show to get some relationship advice. Just kidding.
We should eat food as fuel, to keep our bodies going through everyday. But food can also become our friend. The friend that is there to celebrate the new job, to celebrate Christmas…well its there for all celebrations.
Also, this is the friend that’s there when we have had a bad day at work, or things are tough in our love life or just any tough times in general.
Its quite easy for a friendship with food to become toxic.
Me personally, before, I would always reach for the biscuit tin after a tough day at work. Comfort eating, meant I lost the joy of “having a treat” or going out for food to celebrate life events.
Heidi’s emails, where she talks a lot about happiness and good food choices, has supported me to think before I eat.
I love the SWAP acronym, it helps you figure out what food to ditch.
S.W.A.P
Sugar (and sweeteners)
Wheat (specifically gluten)
Alcohol (no binge drinking at the weekend)
Processed foods (and Take-Aways)
So the focus for my upcoming weeks, are:
- To plan my meals
- Not reach for the biscuit tin everyday after work (even if bourbons are amazing!)
