I’ve had a lovely week! I hope you have too.
This week there’s been a very common theme with the people I’ve met and spoken to. And it’s around the topic of reciprocation.
I’ve been in a thankful mood all week and people have been getting messages and texts from me to thank them for something they’ve done for me. It’s a small exchange but it means something to me to do it.
Whilst doing this I had a conversation with someone who hadn’t asked me for an annual contribution I’d made in previous years. When I asked her why she said it was because they’d not been able to do anything for me in exchange.
I was surprised and disappointed by this. The arrangement had never been reciprocal. My values around this are that we are way more powerful if we can pay these arrangements on.
If I help you and then you help me only two people are benefiting.
But if I help you, you help your neighbour, he helps his sister, she her boss…the return on effort is amplified.
It’s the same with thank yous.
I’ve been thanking people who have helped or motivated or inspired me this week, but in return I’ve had emails out of the blue from friends and clients and rellies with their version of thanks or contact.
It’s lovely to receive them because they’re not from the people I’ve already contacted.
So this week my thought to leave you with is where can you broaden your impact in someone’s life with a thank you or a passing on of something good when you’ve received from someone else?
I’ll start the ball rolling.
Thank you for reading FWH this week. I am always chuffed to see that people do open and read them. Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to open it to see what’s been going on in my world, so that you may be helped in yours.
All you need to do now is pass some thanks on to someone who’s done something lovely, kind, thoughtful, loving or just nice for you this week. It feels good enough to do it, imagine what it will be like for them to receive it!
Let me know how it goes! Have a great week – I plan to!
