Friday with Heidi: “la, la, la”
How many times have you invested in something, knowing that if you did it, it would work. Only to not bother, quit early or not follow advice?
What’s that all about?
I was sitting in front of a business coach last week chatting away when she made an observation about me that I’d heard many times before.
In fact I’ve heard it from:
- My husband
- My mum
- Nia my admin/client support lady
- A mate who knows me through FastTrack
- A mate who knew me before FastTrack days
- A business mentor
- A naturopath
- A kinesiologist
- Several clients
- A networking colleague.
And yet I didn’t want to acknowledge that. I was quite happy chatting away about the other ‘stuff’ – but she insisted on bringing it back around until I discussed it with her.
On the way home, musing over the conversation I realised that I’ve been going from one person to another, paying for their time and expertise, and not doing anything with it. Or, only doing the easy bits and hoping that would fix it all.
I decided there and then that this can’t go on.
I need to take action on the one thing I know will make a difference in all other areas and stop expecting some miracle from the next person I go to visit.
I then thought forward to how life would be when I made the change, and you know what? It was OK! It wasn’t scary or lonely or boring. It was all just fine.
So it got me thinking, what are you ignoring so much that if you did it, it would change everything else?
What do you keep hearing from others (and even your own internal voice) that you’re still ignoring?
Imagine your life now if you made that change, how would it look and you feel?
How many gym memberships have you bought that you’ve not used, knowing that if you went you’d feel better about your body?
How many slimming and diet programmes have you bought into but not seen through, knowing that if you did them they’d work?
How many times has someone suggested that you move more, eat better, sleep longer, drink more water, take time off, meditate, get outside, get your finances in check, get a hobby, spend more time with your family and you’ve still not done it?
Make today the day that you decide to do the thing that will make the difference.
Make today the day that you put in place the action that will stop you chasing shiny objects so that you can do the thing which you know WORKS!
And let me know, I’d love to hear what the small cog you need turn is.
If it’s moving more and eating better and you want an opportunity to plan that then join me at our Healthiest Year Yet event on Saturday 5 January at the Hilton St Anne’s Hotel Wokingham. Tickets are here and I am really looking forward to helping you see the single action that will give you the biggest result.
And I guess by now you’re wondering what stunning piece of advice I was given time and again that I ignored. What ‘thing‘ that I resisted for so long…
Take another day off each week.
Yep, that’s it. The terribly dangerous territory of moving from one day off a week to two has been a topic of both my outer and inner conversation for as long as I’ve been in fitness. And that’s the point. Most of the obstacles we think are huge, really aren’t. Everyone else looking in sees it for what it is apart from us!
Do me and you a favour, find your little cog and make that move! I am.
To your very best of weeks too.
