This week I read an article in the Independent from September this year that stated that 40% of women are not exercising enough.
This isn’t exercise for weight loss.
Nor exercise for fitness goals.
This is exercise to maintain your level of health and well-being to keep it where it is now.
The article explained that the exercise target guidelines are 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week and 75 minutes of vigorous exercise.
But what does that mean and how can you check if you’re doing enough?
Moderate exercise is defined as something you can talk through, but not sing! It then suggests brisk walking, mowing the lawn or swimming (try that and singing!).
Are you getting 150 minutes per week, every week or something active like this? Note, it’s brisk walking, not a poodle down the park with the little ones. It’s paced, determined and you’re likely to get sweaty.
Vigorous exercise is defined as something that when you do it you won’t be able to speak any more than a few words at a time. Things like weight training, high impact aerobics, sprint training, explosive sports like squash or volleyball and, guess what…?
It’s OK, I can wait…. yep! You got it – FIT CAMP!
Fit Camp sessions are based on a high intensity interval training protocol. You work hard for a fixed amount of seconds (not able to speak) and then take a fixed amount of rest. Many of our venues have three sessions a week, so doing two a week of these will give you your tick in the box for maintaining your state of health.
If you want to lose weight, see some changes in muscle definition, lose some fat, improve your fitness, lower blood pressure, lower resting heart rate, improve flexibility, strengthen a lower back or weak stomach muscles, boost your immune system or just feel happier, then you are going to need to add in something in addition to this to give the body a little more of a challenge and for you to see results more quickly.
Are you one of the 40%?
Are you someone who does exercise regularly but isn’t doing enough or isn’t getting the effort levels right per session?
This is not to throw blame or criticism because I do believe that something is better than nothing. However what else can you do to make a difference? Because I also believe that we can find a way even in the tightest of schedules.
- More stairs?
- More walking the shorter trips?
- Grabbing a skipping rope and skipping for 5 minutes in the garden each day. That’s 35 minutes of your 75 right there.
- Walking for 20 minutes at lunch each day. That’s 100 minutes of your 150 right there.
- Or trying us out for a trial week at Fit Camp? Three 45 minute sessions in seven days is more than your 75 minute target easily done and accomplished without you having to do something daily.
To try us out for 7 days and see how easy it is to do enough each week please email Nia on firstname.lastname@example.org or reply to this email and we’ll do the rest.
We want to help you do the right thing for you. Drop us a line today and let’s see what 7 days can do for you.

This week I have also secured the dates and venue for our second Devon Walking Weekender. It’s over the weekend of 10-12 May in Combe Martin in Devon. We’ll be staying at the Wild Pear Centre whilst using it as our base and having, local Lynmouth Bay Cafe owners, Kate and Aileen look after the food side of things so that Debbie and I can look after you!
Pricing to be announced in the next week or so, but expressions of interest to find out more can be requested by filling in the form on this link.
Have a very super weekend! Enjoy the longer Saturday evening and see you next week!
