Friday with Heidi: Doing the necessary..
I am up to my knees in cooking, groceries and prep for our Welsh Weekender this weekend.
Karen and I are heading off to Monmouthshire with nine expectant souls who are wondering what we are going to deliver to them this time.
We have a flexible schedule planned around the theme of ‘self care’. You can’t look after anyone else if you aren’t looking after yourself. It’s not selfish, it’s a necessity and as such our agenda for them each day gives the option to completely check out of any of it if they want to go and do something else instead.
It’s a beautiful place to check out too. A hill top property with 360 degree views of the Welsh countryside, stunning sunrises and sunsets and over 30 acres of private land to wander about and muse in.
We use as much of the land as we can and take over both the main house and a converted barn. We’ve got indoor and outdoor sessions planned for them, three healthy, home-cooked meals a day and some free time too.
What are you doing to take care of yourself?
What can you do to increase that by 1% to give you just a little bit more of it, to increase the benefit?
Do you need to stop and sit with a drink and gaze out the window? Or are you a creative soul who would be better writing or crafting or making something?
If the idea of doing nothing scares you (join the club!) but start small and take a very small action once or twice a week to start with to get the ball rolling. Doing something new always feels a challenge, but I think it’s doubly challenging when it feels that it’s all about you. 14 minutes is 1% of your day. What does that look, feel and sound like for you doing something for you?
When that becomes a habit increase it again, and again until you get to a place where you feel that you have a healthy balance between doing something for you and being someone for others.
Let me know how you get on!
Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got shopping to do and cars to pack!
See you next week.
