This week, for no good reason, I had a moment of ‘meh-ness‘.
I can’t put my finger on it.
Maybe it’s the heat. Maybe the full moon or maybe it’s just what happens once in a while.
But I got in a bit of a state, had a cry and felt a bit pathetic. It was the end of the day, I was tired and the next day I took myself to one side and had a bit of a chat with myself.
I did what I do when these things happen, what I wrote about in my book ‘Why Weight?’ and also what I ask my clients to do when they get themselves into a spin too.
I wrote a list.
Firstly I wrote a list of all the things that make me happy.
From big skies, to starry nights, being strong and sitting in the garden. There was a lot of stuff, some simple, some less so. But a big list of things I can call on when I need a reminder.
I then wrote a list first of all of things or experiences I need in my life each day. If I had all these in place then I’d feel complete. This isn’t about nice to haves or dream days. It’s the essentials. My mental essentials.
It included stuff like being outside daily, eating fresh veg, getting 7 hours of sleep each night, having time on my own, eating meals with Mr Strickers, water, at least one hot drink a day (I hadn’t realised I thought this so important, but seems it is). It also included knowing that I’d made a difference in those 24 hours (whether it was to me, the family, a client or my business), having a goal I was working towards and a feeling of progress each day.
And that was it. That was the one.
I’d not felt that I’d been making progress for a while. I felt a bit stuck, like a leaf in an eddy whirling around.
As soon as I’d wheedled that little nugget our of my noggin, I felt much happier.
I came up with a plan, a new campaign and a strategy for Fit Camp that suddenly got me all inspired to be productive and more ‘RAH‘ than ‘meh‘.
I challenge you this weekend to create both your what makes me happy list and my mental essentials list.
There’s no right or wrong here. It’s your list.
You don’t need to share it with anyone, only you need to know what you need each day.
But do keep it close by. When life gets a bit bleurgh, pull the list out and see what’s missing so you can quickly rebalance and take control of your own well-being.
Only we can do this. It’s no one else’s responsibility. Write the list!
As for my new campaign, it will launch in September! I’ll be talking about it in coming FWH blogs. I am excited about it, I will be making a difference both directly and indirectly to my community and my business.
That’s a few boxes ticked!
Have a fabulous weekend – if you’d like to see what we do, come along to Sunday Wake Up! at 9am at Bearwood Recreation Ground, Winnersh where we’ll be getting a sweat on for 45 minutes. It’s £7 per person. It would be lovely to see you.
Have a great weekend!
