Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Kran Sondh at a network training meeting and we caught up after the event to share business tales and opportunities.
Kran owns and runs the award winning Cook Curry Club. Awarded the Berkshire & Buckinghamshire Life Food & Drink Awards Newcomer of the Year award in 2015, Kran has gone from strength to strength with
- business curries through networking events
- dinner party curries (you book her, she makes, delivers and cleans up)
- and her take-away service.
During our discussion I was asking about the Take-Away and was pretty chuffed at the coincidence that one of her drop off points for the curries is within a 2 minute drive of where we live. I decided that it was time to put the curry take away to the test.
Every other Friday can be a Cook Curry Club take away night. All you need to do is decide that you want to go ahead by 17.00 on the Wednesday before, place your order and then on the Friday evening pop along to your chosen pick up point. I panicked at bit because I thought it was earlier than the 17.00 deadline, but I paid my £25.00 and told Dale that on Friday we were dining out-ish.
All foods are freshly prepared by Kran and she caters for several dietary preferences like gluten free or dairy free (all listed on the website). Each take-away night has a vegetarian and a meat menu and the minimum order per menu is two portions. So you could have 1 vegetarian order and 1 meat order but you’d have enough for four.
Kran offers a standard portion and a large one. Given the size of we two Strickers I opted for the larger portion on the meat menu. Our menu was:
Green Beans and Coconut (Vegan, Gluten free)
A firm favourite. Light green beans full of coconut flavour.?
Flatbread made with wholemeal flour.
Spring Rice (Vegan, Gluten free)
Fragrant basmati rice infused with garlic and turmeric.
Pickle/ Chillies (Vegan, Gluten free)
Given that we avoid gluten we skipped the bread by leaving a comment in the order form when I booked it. So Kran substituted with some Tarka daal instead — one our favourites!
I dispatched Dale off to collect it whilst I was out at Fit Camp and by the time I got home all I had to do was heat either in the microwave or on the hob (it took me about 5 minutes to heat it through on the hob).
There was ample and, I was delighted to see, that Kran put a big importance on quantity of vegetables. There were a lot of the lovely green beans and coconut which I really enjoyed. The food was light and freshly flavoured and I enjoyed not having my head blown off ( I do like a hot chilli but this wasn’t necessary with this combination) and the whole meal was thoroughly enjoyable.
Kran’s other drop off points are:
Loddon Brewery: Dunsden Green Farm, Church Lane, Dunsden, Oxfordshire, RG4 9QD
Binfield Heath Village Store: Binfield Heath Post Office & Stores, Binfield Heath, Henley on Thames, RG9 4DU
Building for the Future: Metro Business Park, Toutley Road, Wokingham, RG41 1QN
Regal Picturehouse: 2 Boroma Way, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 2BZ
Knowl Hill Village Hall: The Terrace, Knowl Hill, Reading, RG10 9XB
I heartily recommend the service on those nights when you don’t want to cook, have friends coming over or want to have something that you can freeze (all her foods are freezable) so you can use them later.
Give Kran a try and tell her I sent you!
