Friday with Heidi: Getting started…
It’s not at all uncommon for the human being to want to put something off.
- I’ll wait until I’ve got enough time.
- When I’m older.
- When I’m retired.
- I need to lose weight first.
- When I have £XXX saved…
- When I’ve done more work / research / training / qualifications.
Have you used many yourself?
I hear them when people contact us about Fit Camp or making a big change. I frequently hear them when I’m talking 1-2-1 with people about getting started on our Fit, Strong and Happy programme programme or committing to themselves to getting healthier.
I heard me telling me it this week as I embark on the first of my BHAG for this year.
You see this year I’ve committed to writing a book.
It’s part of a business mentoring programme I am on and whilst it’s encouraged it’s not compulsory. But I decided when I applied to be part of the programme that this was my desired outcome. A proper book, that I can use to help people feel better about themselves, in my own words.
We’ve been told it’s to be around 30,000 words and I decided that to really focus my mind to get this done, I wanted a published book in my hand by 1 September.
We had to prepare and present a book pitch to be assessed and analysed for content and marketability. Part of me (a big part of me) was hoping I’d get my pitch back and I’d have to go away and recreate it and come up with new ideas (putting it off!)
But it came back with a green light and the words “looks ready to write to me…”
My initial thought was ‘oh crap… now what do I do?’, ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I don’t know what to do’, ‘I’ll read another book on how to write a book’, ‘who wants to read this anyway?’, ‘why am I doing this?’ ‘I don’t have enough time…’
Once I’d let that filter out, I then thought. How cool is that? I can start, there’s nothing to stop me, I can make a start and get closer to my goal. It doesn’t need to be perfect, I just need to start. It’s a draft, it’s not the final copy.
And so I did. On Thursday. I started. And today I did it again. I’m 3700 words in, which I wouldn’t be if I’d put it off.
I’ve committed to 1000 words a day every day for a month to get this done.
It’s going to happen, it happening. I’ll keep you posted!
I like to pose you a question each Friday.
So here’s this weeks.
- What are you waiting for?
- What have you put off and not started?
- Where could you have been now if you’d started then?
With the talk of snow on the news this week I’ve put in place a few rules about Fit Camp — you can find them here –> http://fasttrack-fitcamp.co.
It’s not too late to get involved in our 12 week Fit, Strong & Happy programme that starts on Monday 23rd. I have 15 places in all and I have 4 left. Please contact Nia on admin@fasttrack-fitcamp.co.uk to get started.
Have a great week. Stay safe. And let me know what you’re starting that you’ve been putting off 🙂
