RHM Blog: Day 35

Tuesday 17 February
I’ve broken my own rule.
I went for a morning run 🙂
I was awake quite early and decided that as I am not around much tomorrow I’d get the run in today. So faffed about for 15 minutes and headed out for a 5 mile or so run about 06.40.
It was still dark and the pavements were very icy, so whether I was supposed to be running slowly or not, I decided I would as it was a bit slippery in places. I found it hard to get going, but did enjoy the fact that it was pretty quiet on the roads and there weren’t even many dog walkers about.
I had the mildly irritating problem of the Endomondo tracker not picking up the start of my run and so telling me that my first mile took me 16 minutes. Even though you know you could walk it quicker than that a little part of your head does wonder whether you really are slowing down and not improving.
I decided to make a new route today. I don’t really know the distances of local routes like Karen does, so decided to head out towards Cantley Park, where we start our group runs with her, and head off in a new direction. I was really pleased that my route was about an hour ,and over 5 miles so ticks in both boxes as far as her plan goes.
It also dawned on me today that it’s taken a relatively short time for me to be able to ‘pop out’ for an hours run. I used to bemoan the 30 minute 5km that I did. Now to head out and run for an hour is becoming the norm.
There is something very virtuous about knowing that you don’t have to worry about when the next run is going to be. Mine will be Thursday with the group so I can maintain my 3 a week minimum as we head towards 4 weeks to race day.
Hooray! Real pancake day…
