RHM Blog: Day 22

Sunday 1 February
A day off from running today. I did my early walk which was lovely but very windy and chilly and I was quietly pleased that I wasn’t running today as the wind and chill would have played mind games with me.
I realised quite clearly today that in any sort of exercise, sport of fitness regime there are a few stages.
- starting out everything is a struggle. Your fitness is shot, your strength is limited and your technique is poor.
- after a while your fitness improves, but as you get fitter you can push yourself a bit harder, your strength improves in bursts but there are times when it feels like you’ve not improved at all; and then your technique improves or you get into a habit of doing something in a certain way whether or not it’s the best way, but you find it the most suitable way for you.
- then finally, and this was my realisation today as I related it to my time as a BodyPump instructor, you get fit enough, you get strong enough and your technique becomes part of you and unconscious. Your sessions are still challenging, but you know that you are strong / fit / determined enough to complete them. Whereas when you are starting out you have no idea how strong, fit or capable you are. That’s how I am now. I am dearly looking forward to the time when I am level 3 and know I can do the training regardless.
I’m planning on a 5 mile run tomorrow whatever the weather, that will keep me upto date and on target with Karen’s timetable.
Eaten well today, so happy I’ll be ready and energised for a run. I’ll still do my visualisation tonight though just to make sure. I read a great article on visualisation today. Here it is for those of you who want to know how to get better and succeed at whatever you want in life.
