RHM Blog: Day 21

Saturday 31 January
It’s official! I have a number with my name on it. If there was ever a chance that I was going to drop out (again) it would have had to have been before this plopped through my door. So we’re on 🙂
Early morning 2 miler walk this morning in the very crispy snow. It was just wonderful. Saturday and Sunday walks are best as it’s so quiet. It was significantly lighter this morning too so I felt especially happy to be out and enjoying the morning.

Hungry when I woke up so had a banana and coffee. But nothing else for breakfast. Dale is still feeling very crappy and so meals are a bit hit and miss at the moment. I must eat properly today so I can fuel my hill run later.
Got myself out for a ‘hill run’ about 17.00 tonight. It was probably dark enough for a flat run, but to try something new was a little challenging as I hadn’t realised there were no street lights where I wanted to run. I’ve never undertaken any prescribed training before, when I did the half marathon in 1998 I just run further and further with no pace change or challenges. So this is interesting and enlightening.
I’d laid in bed last night visualising me charging up hills strong and happy. I do wonder how I’d have performed if I hadn’t done this! I chose to run over a motorway bridge as a repeating set, sprint up (like the terminator in T2 or Tom Cruise in any action movie, all upright and fixed arms) and jog back.

It was challenging to say the least. I made sure I slapped a smile on my face and shouted “go, go, go” in my head as I was running a touch faster than usual. I won’t say it was ‘charging’ but it was definitely faster 🙂 I did it 4 complete times and then jogged back covering about 5 miles in total including running there and back.
The chapped belly seems to be cured with liberal application of Vaseline before I go out.
The motivation is improved with music on loud.
The will power is strengthened by writing this and making it public.
Feel good today, I am going to be visualising more often. It always helps me.
