RHM Blog: Day 19
Thursday 29 January
Oh gawd. I didn’t spring out of bed this morning and go for my normal walk. I was pooped!
I am not sure if it was the run last night, the fact that Dale is ill and coughing and keeping us both awake all night or I was dehydrated or a combination of all 3, but walking was not on my agenda today. I also knew that I was off out on a group run this morning and needed to make sure that I got there and did it.
It was a bit chilly this morning and I was worried about getting a sore belly again as it’s so itchy and painful. So I smothered my stomach in Vaseline and put two layers on and hoped that would do the trick.
The planned run was 90 minutes today. Reading this on a piece of paper is always a little daunting. I found out later that Karen was hoping that we’d cover 9 miles in the time and that was probably a bit too much information at 2 miles in 🙂
I am the slowest in the group. I watched them set their ‘slow’ pace as I found my only pace, and they trotted off ahead. I had chosen not to wear my headphones today and it may have been better if I had as the natter in my head was quite loud and defeatist at times and I found myself not really enjoying it as much as I would have liked.
At times I’d find myself with one of the group and a small conversation would start, but I am not one for talking and running. I have a suspicion that they cannot be undertaken together — however I am consistently proved wrong by these wonderful ladies who manage to run 9 miles and chat the whole way around!
My legs were very heavy after yesterday’s run and Karen kept taking us further away from where I hoped we’d be heading back home. My mojo had left me at about 3 miles so it got a bit sloggy at times. The last 2 miles back to Cantley Park were completely solo and I just kept encouraging myself to finish the damn run.
I got there and am still waiting for the post run rush of euphoria!
I’ve realised that two runs so close together wasn’t a good idea and that next time I’ll use my music. It helps me shut the internal noise out.
Despite thinking my splits were really slow, I checked my times when I got back and they were spot on for Karen’s training plan for me.
My stomach was fine and no chapping, so all good there too.
I’m taking tomorrow off and back for a shorter run on Saturday.
8.76 miles…who’d a thought it 19 day ago!
