RHM Blog: Day 5 (first group run)

Thursday 15 January
Today was going to be my first ever group run, ever…yes ever! The weekly Lady Butterflies group run by Karen at Elite Conditioning.
I was rather apprehensive as, despite what you may think, I am an introvert and group stuff is tricky for me. I mean I’ll have to make small talk and know stuff that’s going on in the news and media and really I don’t have clue. I am much happier running at my pace, on my own without worrying about anyone else.
Anyway, I told Karen I’d be there and so I turned up not really knowing what to expect.
There were about 12-15 of us I think and after Karen gave us a very thorough description of how to run it, what the purpose was (60 minutes on the legs) and the course we set of.
It was soon apparent that we were quite different paces and spread out rather quickly. Every now and then Karen would ask the quicker runners to loop back and join us before heading off again at their preferred pace. We slower ones didn’t loop and just kept moving forwards.
I am a happy solitary runner and at one point a very nice lady was running silently next to me and I felt obliged to tell her that I wasn’t being rude but not really a chatterer. She soon found her new pace and left me with mine 🙂
I covered just over 5 miles this morning. The most I’ve covered in a very long while and it felt pretty good to get it done. I’ve decided to do another run tomorrow as I am on a two day course this weekend and won’t have any running time. So the weekend can be a rest day or two.
So far so happy 🙂
