When we asked the Henley-on-Thames campers where they liked to eat out, they overwhelmingly said Strada. This was news to me as I’d never heard of the place and so had to ask Andy about it! Vida and I trundled up there today at the end of the Jubilee Half Term to see what they had to offer and how easy it was to chose from the menu.
I know this review is not about the service and atmosphere, but I feel we should state that neither of us thought these were very good. We certainly weren’t looked after and did, at one stage, almost leave. However the food was very nice and there is lots to choose from the menu without having to be Mrs. Picky.
Some points to note
1. Avoid pasta and pizza and you’ve got lots to choose from.
2. You can ask for the risotto to have the cheese removed.
3. The salads, meat and fish meals all looked good with the exception of a few ‘pasta grains’ as menu items. You could ask for these to be removed.
4. As with all restaurants of this nature, puddings are out. But you can certainly eat well and on plan from the starters and side dishes.
Postscript: How often is it that you end up eating lunch and dinner in the same restaurant at the same table in the same day?! I did !! Having had this lunch there, I then found myself back in the evening to meet up with a group of old school friends. I had the Spinach Salad and watched my old school muckers knock back pasta, pizza and risotto! Strada are clearly doing something right, the place was packed! Have fun!
