Happier, healthier and fitter thanks to FastTrack Fit Camp.
I’ve been an all or nothing person my whole life. When I was younger I played a lot of sports – football, hockey, squash often all on the same day. “Growing up” – starting work and having a family meant this wasn’t really an option and my once taken for granted fitness levels plummeted and I piled on the pounds. From time to time I’d sign up for a big event, half marathons, even marathons, 80 mile bike rides. I’d train like crazy for 3 or 4 months, complete the event and then grind to a halt again for months after.
I had warnings that my burning the candle at too many ends approach to life didn’t really suit me – a full on breakdown 6 years ago followed by a cancer diagnosis 18 months later but I bounced back from both. Last year I’d been training for a 3 Peaks challenge but illness meant I only got an hour into the 1st ascent and I had to stop. I’d never failed on a challenge before and felt really miserable and deep down knew things needed to change, I just wasn’t sure how. Then along came FastTrack Fit Camp.
When I came to fit camp for the 1st time it was because a friend had signed me up – I’ve never been a morning person so a 6am start filled me with dread……and I didn’t function without coffee, Diet Coke or chocolate so the eating plan was just a non-starter! I’d humour her for 4 weeks and then say it wasn’t really for me.
After the 1st session I couldn’t walk for 2 days feeling stiffer than when I’d completed a marathon and everyday I told myself I deserved to go back to bed for an hour after such an early start. I got used to the sessions and before I knew it had signed up for a 2nd round when I properly committed to the eating plan and lost 13lb.
10 months on I laugh at those early days – I’ve kind of become a morning person and certainly don’t need caffeine or chocolate to function. The support I’ve had from Vida and Heidi has been immense. They’re always there and keep an eye out for their campers – I will always remember and be grateful for an unexpected but very supportive text as I anxiously headed up London with work for the day just a few days into the eating plan.
This year I completed the 3 Peaks within 24 hours, I’ve run 3 half marathons and got quicker every time, taken part in my 1st triathlon and am back in my size 14 jeans which I hadn’t managed in the previous 10 years.
And most importantly I’m feeling happier, healthier and a lot fitter than I have in a long, long time – it’s taken time, it’s not been easy but so worth it. And yes I do have days where I’m completely off track but now they’re days not weeks or even months and wouldn’t life be dull if it always went to plan.
A big, big Thank You to Vida, Heidi and FastTrack Fit Camp.
